The Silent Patient- Book Review

Yes I know I’m late to this party, but WOW. This one was a stunner.

I recently found out that crime novels are the biggest selling books in the UK. So, even though I’m not a big fan, I decided to try this one just to see what all the fuss was about.

Reader, I was not disappointed. (I’m a fan of contemporary psychological thrillers as long as they’re not too far fetched, and this novel is definitely a falls into that category too.)

It begins with a woman who is found with her dead husband. He has five gunshot wounds on his head. Her fingerprints are on the gun, and nobody else was found at the scene of the crime. When questioned she is silent, and doesn’t speak again.

After the trial, she’s deemed not of a stable mind and put into a psychiatric ward. This is where a curious psychotherapist’s journey of discovery begins, as the mystery is unravelled.

I love how deeply the author has us engaging with the characters on the page. This is not a gory crime fest just for the sake of it- there are underlying issues and family traumas which lead to the characters making really bad choices.

There are over a quarter of a million reviews on Amazon, and the book has been in the charts, in some form or other, for over three years!!

And for good reason.

This is a super clever story. And unputdownable. Seriously. Try it for yourself! Have you read it? Tell me what you think!
